For the longest time I have wanted a true home for my writing. I have been working on my second book, plugging away at these old worn out keys on my laptop in stolen pockets of time for the past 18 months. I have so much written down and yet it all just sits there hidden in folders on my desktop. My book is on a relentless, beautiful, slow burn at the moment, pushed all the way to the back of the queue of priorities taking precedence over the my life.
You see, I am currently in a very, very busy season of life. Everything feels flush with energy, activities, responsibilities, spinning plates, overwhelm and wonder. I have 3 small children under 10 years old, working across 4 timezones running 2 separate businesses, seeing clients, keeping house, trying to maintain all my relationships and tend to my inner world (amongst all the bazillion other things, I know you know what I mean). And sadly, as life keeps life-ing at this full throttle pace, my faithful, enduring book keeps getting pushed further and further down the line.
And yet, these little words brewing and bubbling away inside me are fiercely insistent to keep on pouring themselves out, and so, I knew I had to follow that inner nudge (which rudely wakes me up in the middle of the night) and start sharing some of what I have been writing about here, on Substack, NOW, with you.
I am so happy you’re here.
The words “LOVE HARDER” came to me in a 1:1 session with a client many years ago. She was traversing a bumpy patch inside her relationship and was asking me how I get through those moments inside my own marriage. I have been with my husband since I was 18 years old. We didn’t get married until I was 26, but you could say now, in our mid 40’s after 26 years together, we have navigated through quite a lot. My words to her in that moment where very honest and off the cuff.
I replied “Sometimes, when it gets hard, you just have to Love Harder”.
“Love Harder?” She replied.
I nodded, “Yep. Love Harder”.
It has become some what of a theme I have been exploring ever since that moment.
What does is really mean to Love Harder?
How do we return to that love when the lights go out momentarily?
Here, in my new cosy writing nest, you’ll find weekly essays about the moments that shape us, the ordinary experiences that hold extraordinary insight when we stay with them long enough.
I’ll write about life, relationships, motherhood, inner exploration, work, identity, travel, nature, consciousness and the deeper currents that quietly influence how we all move through this mad and brilliant world. I’ll share stories from the cobwebs of my desktop folders and hopefully encourage you think, ponder, laugh, cry, nod in understanding or at the very least, just keep reading!
I will also share practices, conversations, wisdom teachings, poetry and observations that have inspired me in my own journey to Love Harder, especially on my darkest and hardest days.
At the end of each piece, I will leave you with a gentle question, opening up to your on self enquiry.
Because this just isn’t about my writing.
It’s a conversation.
A deeper conversation.
And I cannot wait to start it with you.
Thank you for being here, I am really happy you’ve found your way to Love Harder with me.
Love Kate
X
